Trim Up Tuesday (I Know its Thursday) and Other Stuff...

Hi all,
Since I threw my back out there has been no exercise except for stretching the muscles in my neck and back. I have really improved my eating though. I have eaten NO fast food this week and only drank ONE soda....a Coke. My I need to detox off the fast food so I actually went to the store, bought bread, lunchmeat, lean cusine entries and fruits and veggies and have been making my lunch for four days in a row!

I am presenting at a historical conference this weekend and it has been a challenge to get it all together! I did oral history interviews with people who lived through and participated in the Civil Rights Movement. Tomorrow is the anniversery of Dr. Martin Luther King's assination and many of the present day leaders are braodcasting from Memphis at the museum that I saw last summer. One of the National Civil Righs assiocations has made the hotel and the hotel room made into an exhibit. The room and the hotel look EXACTLY as it did the day he died. It was one of the most errie things I have ever seen. Doing this project has really made me appreciate all of the changes that the people who contributed to the movement brought about. The trip I went on last summer was really a life changing experience and one of the factors that made me really WANT to quit smoking. I mean, I met all these people were willing to give up their lives to fight for change and I was busy throwing mine away!It made me think that some people would die to live one more day and I was killing myself slowly by engaging in bad lifestyle choices.

Although I feel honored that I was able to attend that trip and present my research and project to others; lets just say making and editing a documentry is REALLY hard work! If I would have know it was going to be this hard I probably NEVER in my right mind would have signed up to go! I need to work non-stop for the next two days to get my presentation together and then I just have to finish editing the interviews and transcribe them! After that and finishing my thank-you letters, I will be done! I will post after this weekend unless they happen to have internet access at the conference.
Peace,

Eliminating fast food and getting into the habit of buying groceries and preparing meals at home is such a huge step, at least if you are anything like I was for so long. I'm still treating myself once a week to fast food if I want it, but it's funny how it doesn't even taste as good as I expect after eating better throughout the week.

Your project sounds really cool, even if it's a lot of work.

Wow, that sounds like it would be so interesting -- the interviews and traveling. Awesome!

Congrats on changing your eating habits. I agree with Maggie - I almost can't stand fast food. The food I can prepare myself tastes so much better, if I can get off my lazy butt and prepare it! :=)

Have you got more questions about the Trim Up Tuesday template? I might need to put better directions on there, and I'd like to know what youo're having trouble with so I can atleast address the problem for others.

Giving up fast food is my major hurddle right now. I love me a quick breakfast drive through on the way to the gym. I'd love for it to stop tasting so good. At least I'm down to only going on mornings that I go to the gym.

I remember going on a field trip when I was in high school to see the movie Malcom X in our of the theatres in downtown Chicago. They wanted us to learn more about him and I walked away from there with a true understanding of what he stood for and a deep sadness for the loss of his life and the grief that came from it. I may have to watch that movie again now.

I didn't get how to use the template and I was in a hurry so I just posted and I took the quick route. It was kind of like driving through the drive through...sometimes you just do want you gotta do eating and getting stuff done... (Never mind that what I was eating could have been cardboard with flavor enhancers!) Last night I did break down and eat at El Pollo Loco as I got home from a training at 8:00PM. My ordering could have been better. I did get a salad with low fat dressing but the rest of that order was questionable! I will post after this event is over!
Peace,
Diva
PS: I love the Malcom X movie...I met Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and his story is really amazing!

I am COMPLETELY jealous!!!! I miss El Polo Loco, it's my favorite fast food place ever, but they don't have it here in the midwest ...

Okay, you're using blogger, right? So open a new post. Make sure it's on "Edit HTML" and not "Compose". Paste the code in, and that's it!

Ms Diva:

So how did you presentation go? I bet it went well.

I can't believe it has been 40yrs since King's assassination. I was about seven months old at the time but later as I learned about him and what he was trying to do I felt a great loss at his death.

We miss your regular blogging Diva.
I'm glad your presentation was so successful. I'd love to hear (sometime when you have time) to explain more fully what you do and what you're into so to speak.
